Missions Moment – September 2024
by Alison Pierce
As the summer months continue, the Missions Committee’s thoughts turned to kids and camp. We voted to donate $500 to Kesem in support of their Camp Kesem initiative. Camp Kesem is a free, week-long overnight summer camp experience designed for children between the ages of 6 and 18 who are impacted by a parent’s cancer. The camps, held around the country, focus on creating fun experiences that help these children escape – even for a short time – the challenges of coping with a parent’s cancer diagnosis. Staffed by college student leaders along with nurses, mental health professionals, and other experienced staff, the camp provides a safe, fun, and empowering experience for the campers. As one camper said, “Camp Kesem means the world to me and I look forward to the one week of the year I can be myself. I feel like Kesem is my second home, a family community, and truly magical.”
Looking toward the fall, the Mission’s Committee is once again spearheading our Blessing Bags Ministry. Please see the article within this month’s On-the-Common with details for our packaging date during Coffee Hour on October 20, 2024. We hope to see you there!
