As a reflection of concern for the human suffering occurring globally as a result of natural and human caused crises, this month the Missions Committee donated $500 split evenly between the International Red Cross and the UCC Global HOPE International Emergency Fund.

The UCC Global HOPE International Emergency Fund works with partners including Global Ministries engaging through the ACT Alliance, to respond to natural disasters and other crises that upend lives or forcibly displace people from their homes. Global HOPE works to direct financial support and ensure the United Church of Christ stands with vulnerable people during times of crisis.

The work of the International Committee of the Red Cross includes locating missing people, reuniting children with their families, rebuilding hospitals, facilitating medical interventions including surgery and  rehabilitative services, and improving access to clean water, shelter and food. Some of the places in which the Red Cross is currently working include Ukraine, Myanmar, Gaza, Lebanon and Sudan. Per it’s Mission Statement the International Red Cross is a neutral, independent organization, part of the world’s largest humanitarian network, and a guardian of international humanitarian law.
