Prayer Shawl – Give Comfort
Prayer shawls have been used for centuries to comfort and comfort those who are in need. A prayer shawl can be an incredible comfort to those that wear it, providing a sense of comfort and strength wrapped around the body. They remind the person of their faith and allow them to be close to God in times of distress or joy. They are knitted or crocheted in a variety of colors and patterns. These can be used to express comfort and love in the form of healing hugs, gestures of comfort, and a reminder of the comfort that God offers.
“…the God of all consolation, who consoles us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God.”- 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
In addition to our Stephen Ministry, Slatersville Congregational Church, a UCC church in norther Rhode Island, also offers a Prayer Shawl Ministry. Our Pins and Needles group and members of the congregation knit shawls which are given to those who may be going through a difficult time in their lives and are in need of comfort and prayers. Handmade fleece blankets are given to children who may be hospitalized as well.
