Fun Summer Days with New Friends!
Slatersville Congregational Church was alive and hopping with some incredible young, new friends over the last couple of weeks.
The Youth from Pilgrim Church in Duxbury visited and stayed as guests of SCC over the weekend. They were here to serve our community and church and boy did they!
They worked with the N. Smithfield Heritage Association to learn how to clean and restore some of the historic headstones in the Slatesville Cemetary. Later, they received a walking tour from Rich Keene, the
Association’s President. They topped off their community service by cleaning up our Common – removing dead limbs from the trees and gathering them and other fallen twigs and branches from around the green.
Troop 438 later joined this group for a wonderfully fun event called “Games on the Green and Movie on the Screen” which was planned by Megan Reyes, Troop 438 Scoutmaster and her team. Yard games and a
Disney Film in Globe hall were the main events along with some great Hot dogs, ice cream and others food served by SCC folks. What a great evening together. Members of the community also joined in the fun.
Sunday evening, Troop 438 held a Food Truck Fundraiser with Mickey’s G’s Clam Cakes and chowder and some great local musicians on the common. What a relaxing and fun evening!
We are so grateful for the time together with all these wonderful young people and their leaders and families. And we so appreciate the Duxbury Youth’s Service to SCC and our greater community. Thank you to everyone!
