Missions Moment – April 2025

Published On: April 1st, 2025

Mark your calendar for Sunday, May 18 as we gather together after church to host RISE AGAINST HUNGER and create over 10,000 meal packages, which will be sent to those in need in Kenya. We are looking for lots of volunteers to make this event a success, so please look for sign-up sheets in Globe Hall or take advantage of online registration. Strong bodies are needed to help with setup on Saturday, May 17 , as well as both unloading and loading the trucks before and after the event. There are plenty of opportunities for volunteers of all ages! United Parish of Upton will be partnering with us for this event and have contributed $500 towards the total cost of $4,100. Your Missions contributions will cover the remaining $3,600.

The Missions Committee has funded the Minister’s Discretionary Fund with $500 for 2025. The Discretionary Fund allows the minister to help those in crisis situations. For example, the fund could be used to purchase a grocery or gas gift card or pay a utility bill.

In addition, $300 will be donated to Greater Good Charities to aid Ukraine in the recovery of their bee colonies.Over the past years, tens of thousands of bee colonies have been destroyed in Ukraine due to the impact of the war. Bees provide critical pollination to crops, and honey production is a major industry in Ukraine. In fact, the country is one of the five largest producers of honey in the world.Reverend Sean fondly remembers his host family’s honey, and our hope is that our gift will help revitalize this industry again.

Because March is Red Cross Month, $200 was donated to help the Red Cross in supporting people with disaster relief services, such as emergency shelter, food, relief supplies, basic health care, emotional support, and financial assistance.

Lastly, the Missions Committee continues to support the Men’s Shelter in Woonsocket by providing a hot meal once a month in conjunction with the Broaster House.
