Missions Moment – March 2025
by Alison Pierce
Each February, the Missions Committee honors Black History Month by donating to an organization that supports the Black community. This year, the committee voted to donate $500 to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. This fund is the country’s first and foremost civil and human rights law firm, working tirelessly to advocate for the equal treatment of and racial justice for Black people. Using the power of law, narrative, and research, this fund helps defend and advance the full dignity and citizenship of Black people in America. It was founded in 1940 under the leadership of Thurgood Marshall, who became the key strategist in the effort to end racial segregation and subsequently became the first African-American U.S. Supreme Court Justice.
In the works for later this spring is the hosting of a Rise Against Hunger meal prep event sponsored through your Missions donations. If you’re new to our church, this is an event held
directly after our church service, where we all work together on a start-to-finish meal assembly experience.By combining rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, and a packet of 20 vitamins and minerals, we will work to create 10,000 meal packages that can be shipped anywhere in the world. Stay tuned and get ready to don your hair net, boogie to some fun tunes, and do a good deed for others in need around the world!
Lastly, the Missions Committee continues to support the Men’s Shelter in Woonsocket by providing a hot meal once a month in conjunction with the Broaster House.
